KNOWING GOD BY NAME PART 3 Kay Keith Peebles July 20, 2018 18.19
He spoke clearly and emphatically, “Pull it out of her stomach”! We were in our fifth day of a mission trip to Kenya. Our team of four was ministering at a High School in Kagio. There were approximately 200 students consisting of both young men and women. Some listened intently, while others whispered to each other. Each of us gave a powerful personal testimony of what the Lord had done in our lives. Our stories were relatable to the teens in Kenya because our problems and needs were the same.
The Lord asked my husband to end every one of our meetings the same way. He wanted us to turn over the end of the meetings to the Holy Spirit so that He could touch the people. My husband would tell everyone to stand with their hands stretched open as if expecting to receive something. They were not to pray, sing or speak. He also asked that no music be played during that time. All stood silently before the Lord hoping to feel His presence. At the end of the silent period my husband asked those who had felt the touch of God to please raise their hand. Many did so in every meeting. The High School was no exception. We knew the Holy Spirit had moved among the young people.
The meeting was finished but before leaving, we took pictures with the principals, teachers and leaders of the school. We had begun walking back to our vehicle when someone shouted, “Pray for this girl, she has severe stomach pain”! My husband and the Kenyan pastor with us grabbed the girl’s arms as she was about to collapse. They lowered her onto the ground and began interceding for her condition to be healed. Her face was contorted from the intense pain she was experiencing. She was thrashing on the ground while holding her stomach. I moved closely in to lay hands on her when the Lord spoke to me, “Pull it out of her stomach”!
His instruction was clear and emphatic, and I understood that her affliction was not simply physical, it was demonic. Its source was witchcraft. It is not normal for a teenager, 15 or 16 years old to have severe stomach issues and knowing the Kenyan diet, it would be quite unusual. I made a fist and gently touched her stomach. I then quickly pulled it away, as if I were pulling a string from her body, while commanding the demon to “Come out, in the name of Jesus”! Instantly, an expression of peace came over her face and she fell back as if unconscious.
We could not arouse her, so the principal asked four girls from the school to pick her up and carry her to bed. She was motionless but breathing peacefully. We knew the Holy Spirit was ministering to her and we did not want to interrupt His work. We left praising God believing He had powerfully impacted the young woman.
The next day, we received a phone call from the pastor who had taken us to the school. The girl had slept peacefully through the night. He told us that morning the principal had taken her to the hospital to be examined. Her previous diagnosis had been one of stomach ulcers. After running new tests, the doctor confirmed the ulcers were all gone! They were declaring a miracle. Our hearts rejoiced that the Lord had delivered that precious girl and healed her body. He alone, knew what was wrong and how to save her.
None of our team had the power to heal or deliver anyone. God is the healer and deliverer, but we were given authority to use the name of Jesus. (See Mark 16:17-18.) “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father, and I will do whatever you ask in My Name [as representing all that I AM], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son. [Yes], I will grant whatever you shall ask in My Name.” John 14:12-14.
I heard the Holy Spirit instruct me on what to do. He clearly said, “Pull it out of her stomach”! His instruction confirmed to me the young woman had been cursed through witchcraft and her illness was demonic. When He said, “Pull it out of her stomach”, I knew it was done because He commanded it. All I had to do was obey and cast it out. He did the work through His power, mercy and grace. To God be the glory!
“The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer, my God, my keen and firm Strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my Shield and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower. I will call upon the Lord, Who is to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.” Psalm 18:2-3.
DELIVERER: Yasha (Hebrew) means to be open, wide or free, to be safe; to free or succor, avenging, defend, deliver, help preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save, get victory. Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance.
God had anointed David to be king of Israel in Saul’s place. King Saul was jealous of David and tried to kill him. David put his trust in the Lord during the time he was running from Saul’s wrath. He sang the following song to the Lord: “David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hands of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: The Lord is my Rock [of escape from Saul] and my Fortress [in the wilderness] and my Deliverer, My God, my Rock, in Him will I take refuge; my Shield and the Horn of my salvation; my Stronghold and my Refuge, my Savior—You save me from violence. I call on the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” 2 Samuel 22:1-4.
“The eyes of the Lord are toward the [uncompromisingly] righteous and His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. When the righteous cry for help the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distresses and troubles. The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent. Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:15-19.
The Book of Acts records Stephen’s testimony to the High Priest and hierarchy of Israel before he was stoned. In Acts 7:35-36 it states, “It was this very Moses whom they had denied saying, Who made you our ruler and judge? Whom God sent to be a ruler and deliverer and redeemer, by and with the protecting hand of the Angel (Jesus) that appeared to him in the bramblebush. He it was who led them forth, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt and at the Red Sea and during the forty years in the wilderness.” (Emphasis mine). God used Moses to deliver Israel out of Egyptian slavery. It was the pre-incarnate Jesus who empowered Moses’ staff to perform miracles.
Isaiah 59 records the prophecy of Isaiah regarding Israel’s coming Messiah, Jesus who is their Deliverer. “So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight. He shall come as a Redeemer (Deliverer) to Zion and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the Lord. As for Me, this is My covenant or league with them, says the Lord: My Spirit, Who is upon you and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouths of your children, or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord from henceforth and forever.” Isaiah 59:19-21. (Emphasis mine). See Romans 11:26.
The children of the Lord have a Redeemer, a Deliverer who protects them from their enemies. The Book of Acts is still being written. It is alive in our current generation. He is still the Healer, the Deliverer, the Redeemer, the Savior. He is still binding up the broken hearted and setting the captives free. He is still doing the works of Jesus in the earth today. The Gospel is not an antiquated, out of touch message. It is alive and well because nothing has changed, people still need healing, salvation, deliverance and protection from the works of darkness.
We saw the devil leave that young woman when we spoke the Name of Jesus. His name is still above every other name. At the name of Jesus, every knee WILL bow and every tongue WILL confess that Jesus is LORD, whether above the earth, upon the earth or in the bowels of hell beneath the earth. (See Philippians 2:9-11). The day is coming! Until then, we are called to set the captives free, heal the sick and proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, the year of His favor. Our Deliverer met us in Kenya but He is not limited by space, time or geography. The only thing that limits His power from manifesting is unbelief.
But for those who believe, God has given His promise. “And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages (tongues); they will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.” Mark 16:17-18. (Emphasis mine).
“He shall call upon Me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:15. The Lord is our Deliverer!
