WHO AM I?

Since Adam’s first breath, mankind has wondered “Who am I?” We have all questioned, “Why am I here?” The purpose of life has perplexed everyone who has ever been born throughout the 6,000+ years of man’s existence. Millions upon millions have lived and died never knowing the answer to the question: “Who am I?” The fact that we even wonder can be credited to our Creator. It was a part of His amazing and intricate design as He prepared us to enter the earthly realm. He has provided all the answers we need, if we will seek Him. His Word and His mighty acts hold powerful clues to our identity that prepare and embolden us as we walk out our journey.
I did not become born again until I was 31 years of age. It was during a marriage crisis I surrendered to Jesus and gave my life and that of my family to Him. I had attended church all my life and believed God existed, but I never knew Him, never believed He loved me or that He had a plan for my life. Three years after my born again experience which made the Lord very real to me, He introduced me to Psalm 139. I soon knew I had the call of God on my life. Once a year our church had a Laity Sunday where the Pastor called upon a person in the congregation to deliver the Sunday morning message. In 1983 I preached my first sermon and my topic was about the Sanctity of Life from Psalm 139. It has been a powerful scripture in my life ever since that time.
Two and a half years ago my husband and I were in a home group with 20-30 other seekers. A couple in our group had a pre-mature baby whose lungs had not fully developed. He had been released from the hospital after several weeks but he had begun to struggle to breathe and it quickly became life-threatening! That night they called during our gathering with the news they were in an ambulance headed to the emergency room, but it didn’t look like they would make it in time. Our group immediately went into deep intercession for this precious little one.
We all knew this was an attack of the enemy. The Lord moved through the entire group giving us clear direction how to pray and what to declare. Our leader rebuked the spirit of death off the baby. Others prayed for complete healing of the lungs and air passages. My husband was given the word we should shout for victory! Faith was in the room and so was the presence of the Lord. Then the Lord spoke to me “Read Psalm 139”. As I read through the chapter, He opened the eyes of my understanding for verse 16. “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were appointed for me, when as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape].” That exploded in my heart! The Lord wrote in His book all the days He decreed each of us would live on the earth! It was His plan we would live a certain number of days fulfilling His purpose for us on earth and He recorded it in His book.
I realized the Lord wanted me to declare what He had already recorded in His book about this child. The enemy does everything he can to circumvent the purpose of God in our lives. God had a plan for this baby and the enemy was trying to destroy His plan for this little treasure at the very beginning of his life. The Lord then instructed me, as He had done with others, to pray, declare and decree what He spoke. My declaration was that we reject the plan of the enemy to take this baby’s life and we agreed with the plan of God that he would live all the days the Lord had ordained for him in His book, fulfilling His God-given purpose in the earth.
Glory to God. He initiated the prayers we all prayed. He gave us faith to believe. We shouted a mighty shout of victory and the Lord healed the baby! When we all finished praying, the phone rang. The mother said the baby was alright! She told us the baby’s breathing went back to normal while still in the ambulance and he would be alright. She said the paramedics told her they had never seen this happen before. The baby was kept for observation and was released from the hospital within a couple of days. Glory to God!
This past Saturday night, (October 9, 2021) while in prayer at church, the Lord brought Psalm 139 back to my attention. I knew He was preparing me to write this word this week. I later awakened around 1 am and rose to pray. I felt He was downloading new insight to me on this passage. I was overwhelmed with the love of God for us all and wept as I meditated on this Psalm. How different it was from how I had perceived God, having grown up in religion. Faith in God is not academic; it is heart, very tangible, and oh so real. If you have struggled as I have in the past, with believing God loves you, please open your spiritual ears and feel the true heart of God as you read this incredible truth. Within its verses the Lord is declaring just how valuable you (we all) are to Him and to the world in which we were planted. Even the generation in which we were all birthed is critical to His plan. The days He planned for us and the purpose for which we were fashioned are relevant to this day and this hour. We are living in the greatest days since creation because the Lord is removing all the spots and wrinkles out of His body (the church) in order that His Glory will be seen throughout the earth before He returns.
PSALM 139
GOD’S Omnipresence and Omniscience
“O LORD, you have searched me and have known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up [my entire life, everything I do]; You understand my thought from afar; You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and You are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue [still unspoken], behold, O LORD, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, and [You have] placed Your hand upon me. Such [infinite] knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is too high [above me], I cannot reach it.
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will take hold of me. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will cover me, and the night will be the only light around me,’ even the darkness is not dark to You and conceals nothing from You, but the night shines as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.
For You formed my innermost parts. You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret, and intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colors] in the depths of the earth. Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were appointed for me, when as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape]. How precious also are your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them. If I could count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You…Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” AMPV
I can see Him leaning over you so closely His lips touch your tiny ear as He whispered “I love you, and I will make Myself known to you”. I can see His delight as He determined your DNA and fashioned your personality to fit in the perfect place at the perfect time with your generation. He knew you would hear His call to be His child and one day bask in the wonder of His love.
The Word of God confirms this in Romans 2:13-15. “For It is not merely hearing the Law [read] that makes one righteous before God, but it is the doers of the Law who will be held guiltless and acquitted and justified. When Gentiles (unbelievers) who have not the [divine] law, do instinctively what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, since they do not have the Law. They show that the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts and operating there with which their consciences (sense of right and wrong) also bear witness; and their [moral] decisions will accuse of perhaps defend and excuse .” Emphasis mine.
You are precious to God! He formed you and fashioned you because He has a specific purpose for your life to touch the world in this generation. Your abilities do not qualify you, He does! Your weaknesses do not disqualify you; He is able to turn them into strengths! Your past does not disqualify you; it propels you to trust in Him and put all your hope in His plan for you. This love letter (Psalm 139) assures you He is with you wherever you go, day and night, month after month, year after year, no matter how high or how low, He is there! When He wove you together, He fashioned you beautifully to be exactly what He needed you to be for the fulfilling of your purpose. You have great value because has given all His attention to you even to the point of dying for your sins. I believe He put dreams in us as He formed us and our bodies have His name written within us in hidden places like the protein molecule Laminin that holds all things together.
We have an enemy, just like the little baby who couldn’t breathe. But God’s plans and His power are much greater than that of our adversary! We can change our focus from the circumstances around us we begin to set our gaze solely upon Him. Sickness and disease is not His plan or will for us. Oppression, fear, doubt and unbelief are from the enemy. God’s plan is good to give us a hope and a future. See Jeremiah 29:11.
“For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], (sound familiar?), created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above-spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set] , so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us.]” Ephesians 2:10 AMPV. Emphasis mine.
Listen to this promise: “But now, this is what the LORD, your Creator says, O Jacob (believer), and He who formed you, O Israel, ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you [from captivity]; I have called you by name you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, (Father, Yeshua Jesus, Holy Spirit)…Because you are precious in My sight, you are honored and I love you. I will give other men in return for you and other peoples in exchange for your life. Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east [where they are scattered], and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back,’ Bring My sons from far away and My daughters from the ends of the earth. Everyone who is called by My Name, whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made.” Emphasis mine.
It is time we believe the LORD! It is time we totally put our trust in Him and Him alone! It is time we accept that He made us for His glorious purpose and placed us in the earth now to do a specific work which is necessary for this time and season! The church needs you! The world needs you and what He placed inside of you! When the enemy oppresses, accuses or inflicts sickness or injury, stand on the finished work of the Cross. Believe in the blood covenant Jesus made with all believers. Stand on Psalm 139 and Isaiah 43 and live out to the fullest all the days the Lord assigned to you!
We were created, uniquely fashioned by God, with a heavenly purpose to know His great love for us. As we love Him in return, giving Him everything we are, we will bring Him Glory. That’s who we are!
